WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Friday endorsed plans for a Muslim mosque two blocks from ground zero in New York City, declaring that “Muslims have the right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country.”
FACT: NYC has plenty of masjids and mosques. NO ONE is saying a mosque, even a MEGA-Mosque, can’t be built in Manhattan, just NOT a ground Zero. Rauf and Kahn, are they building bridges? Are they being considerate of the families whose loved-ones were murdered by Islamists on 9-11?
Obama, Bloomberg, the el-Gamals, Rauf and Kahn: THUMBING THEIR NOSES AT AMERICA.
RALLY at GROUND ZERO- 9-11. NO Mosques at Ground Zero!
AMERICA says , “NOT HERE. NOT NOW. NOT EVER” On 9-11!! Join the largest Caravan EVER!
The report from MSNBC continues : “Speaking at a White House dinner celebrating the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, Obama said all Americans have the right to worship as they choose.
President Barack Obama hosts an iftar dinner, the meal that breaks the dawn-to-dusk fast for Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan, Friday in the White House State Dining Room. Obama said the American tenet of religious freedom means the freedom of Muslims to build a mosque near ground zero in New York City.
His remarks drew agreement and vilification.
It was the president’s first public remarks about the mosque controversy. The White House previously called the matter solely a local one.
The dinner was attended by over 100 guests, including two Muslim-American congressmen and ambassadors and officials from numerous Muslim nations, including Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.
“While his (Obama’s) pronouncement concerning the mosque might find favor in the Muslim world, Obama’s stance runs counter to the opinions of the majority of Americans, according to polls. A CNN/Opinion Research poll released this week found that nearly 70 percent of Americans opposed the mosque plan while just 29 percent approved.
A number of Democratic politicians have shied away from the controversy. New York’s mayor, independent Michael Bloomberg, has been a strong supporter of the mosque, which has won approval from local planning boards.”
And from Atlas Shrugs: “ He just became a one term president. The field is wide open for 2012!”
