Landmarks to Vote Tuesday on Potential Mosque Site

The city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission has made a quick turnaround on the controversial site for a potential ground zero mosque, and will hold a vote on it this coming Tuesday, Aug. 3—during what will likely be a very calm public meeting.

The Commission held a hearing two weeks ago to discuss the potential landmark status of 45-47 Park Place, a five-story building, that stands as a prominent example of the store and loft structures that dominated the drygoods warehouse districts of the Lower Manhattan. (The Observer profiled the building earlier this month.)

While it’s not definite that the Commission will vote against a landmark designation, Mayor Bloomberg, who appoints the Commission’s members, has made his support for the mosque very clear. And though it attracted a lot of media attention and a rowdy crowd at the official hearing—moved to Hunter College to accommodate the masses—it’s not the architecture or historical significance that most care about.

But that’s exactly what the Commission will be voting on at 9:30 a.m. in the main theater of the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace University.

The possible landmark status dates all the way back to 1989, when the Commission held public hearings to consider designation for Tribeca districts and individual sites.

Bloomberg is ramming this stab in the eye of every American through at breathtaking speed.

NMAGZ: Where there was once a coat factory, Bloomberg is ramming through a mosque; granting permission to build a mosque/community/prayer center (now called Park 51) without delay! Yet he says nothing about the rebuilding of St. Nicholas Church.  A CHURCH! that was destroyed by the Islamic Terrorists on 9-11.

TEN years later the CHURCH still can’t get a break.  Shame on you Bloomberg and Company. You let the Port Authority stall the rebuilding of this church and you ram-though a mosque; blatant favoritism? Prejudice? What do you call it??

St nicolas church

From Atlas Shrugs:

The Port Authority has become a roadblock to the rebuilding of this Church. This effort is stalled while the mosque at ground zero gets fast tracked. UNACCEPTABLE!

You may remember that the citizens of Bari, Italy raised $500,000.00 and gave it to the Church’s leaders for the rebuilding effort. That money was raised in 6 months after 9/11 occurred. The Church has a deal with the Port Authority which states they would give the Church more land to rebuild. The PA keeps stalling.

Its time for us to push them forward. Here’s their website: . Let them know you want them to complete the deal so the Church can be rebuilt. NINE years is far too long for this outrageous delay to have gone on and we won’t stand for it.

TOMORROW MORNING! August 3, 2010. Landmark Commission. 9:30 AM . Let them know how you feel about Bloomberg’s  gift to the city: A mosque for Thee, whether you want it or not!

I can hardly believe what I am reading. Is a Mosque at Ground Zero really even being CONSIDERED? Wow. I had a lot of respect for the American way of life and if this is allowed, then the terrorists have already won, for if this is allowed then it will be like America is waving the white flag of surrender. This must also be like emotional torture to the victim’s families, who lost loved ones in the most atrocious act of horror since the second world war. Please, come to your senses, DO NOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN…The world is watching and any respect for the United States of America will be totally lost, should this appalling proposal go ahead.

i am against a mosque near ground zero. whether the people behind building this have good intentions or not, the people of new york should have their say. they are the ones still dealing with this tragedy. they should be listened to.

To even consider this Islamic Mosque in this sacred location is a sin. How does one start an email campaign to show the preferences of grass roots America.

Wall Street is always blamed for not investigating all the risks of the products they sell, that there is no clarity or transparency around these products and there is NOT enough due diligence.
That is exactly what Mayor Bloomberg and the commission board is guilty of: lack of transparency, weak due diligence, and limited assessment of risk to New Yorkers and America.

Wall Street is always blamed for not investigating all the risks of the products they sell: that there is no clarity or transparency around certain investments, that is insufficient due diligence, and lack of understanding of real risks. Most recently this has cause the 2008-2009 economic meltdown and loss of American’s jobs, homes, college savings and retirement savings.
Mayor Bloomberg, AG Cuomo, and Senators Schumer and Gillibrand and the NY commission board are also guilty of the same. They are approving the building of the ground zero mosque despite: 1) lack of transparency of where the funding is coming from, 2)weak due diligence or understanding of the the mission and goals of this proposed Mosque under the leadership of Imam Rauf and Daisy Khan, 3) limited assessment of political risk to New Yorkers and America. Is there money or promises being exchanged behind closed doors? Something does not make sense.

I hope it catches on fire and burns to the ground! Do you suppose the NYFD would even respond to the call?

This is another slap in the face courtesy of our pandering sissy government run country….Wake up people the rest of the world is laughing at us. It would be nice if our elected officials would stop turning there back on the PATRIOTIC AMERICAN people that put them in political power and for a change exercise there authority in a AMERICA positive way.

Barry will soon kick off another “apology tour.”
His menacing Progressive 2nd term campaign trail awaits…
Barry will pin the Mosque thingy on George W…

Highly doubtful; Obama’s stance on this is already clear. It’s a local (that is, New York City) issue and an issue with the officials there (or in my case, here).

Bloomberg can’t run for re-election again. However, no one planning to succeed him has taken a position on the mosque either.

Another small step up the ladder of dhimminitude towards submission to sharia and Islam by our great “leaders”. This is a pathetic example of the majority opinion being overruled by a handful of apologists, sycophantic misunderstanders of Islam. How this will end? In the words of the late Charlton Heston “not until they pry my cold dead fingers from my rifle”. I for one, will NEVER submit to Islam.
